the Mcallen creative incubator
The 1960s building (Old McAllen Library) located at Main Street and Fir Avenue has been renovated by the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and City of McAllen’s Arts + Public Life Initiative. Envisioned by local artists, the Creative Arts Incubator is a space for art and music studios, arts education, community-based arts projects, as well as exhibitions, performances, and talks.
The main entrance is now in the back of the building, where there is parking. The entrance doors on Main Street are usually locked.
colibrí music studio
To visit colibrí outside of rehearsal hours, come upstairs to the second floor where we have two of the old Library’s study rooms.
Studio 13 and 14 are immediately above the entrance.
Auditions and private music lessons are held in Studio 13, where teaching materials and the choral library are kept.
The office and library are in Studio 14.
the gallery
Rehearsals are held in the Gallery, which is on the first floor, to your right after you enter.
Restrooms and a water fountain are available on the right before entering the Gallery.
Note: Although it is usually called the “Gallery,” the sign says “Exhibit Room” (a remnant from the old Library).
choir rehearsal space
Equipment is set up and taken down in the Gallery each Sunday for rehearsals. There are different art exhibits each month for us to enjoy.
Parents may wait for their children in the main area where there are comfy chairs or tables and chairs.
There is also free wi-fi for visitors. If you have trouble connecting, contact the director for tips on how to access it.
